CAPTAIN KANE SEALS THE DEAL FOR ENGLAND

The famous football words from 1966 “They think it’s all over, it is now” perfectly describe last night’s dramatic victory for England over Tunisia.

As the game approached extra time, it seemed all hope for England was lost as the score remained an underwhelming 1-1.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek made an instant impact when coming on for England in the second half, working hard to break through Tunisia’s defence.

Battling in added time, Ruben won England an important corner, where they had been a threat all night with England’s opening goal coming from a corner.

Kieran Trippier stepped up to take this vital corner, as he had been all game, causing real problems for Tunisia’s defence from set pieces.

Once again the corner was perfect, directed to England defender Harry Maguire who cushioned the ball to captain Harry Kane.

Kane perfectly headed the ball past Tunisia goalkeeper Farouk Ben Mustapha. Mustapha was left standing as he watched the ball fly into the back of the net.

England reacted with joy and relief as the players leapt on to Kane to celebrate winning their opening game of the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.

What’s next? England still have to play a relatively unknown Panama side and a well-known and tough Belgium side containing the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne.

So England made a good start but the this World Cup will see surprises. We’ve already seen Mexico beating title holders Germany and Brazil settling for a 1-1 draw with Switzerland.
