Early Remy goal sinks Rennes
Former Premier League star Loic Remy’s fourth minute strike from outside of the box, was all Lille needed to secure the three points against Rennes.
The away side, barely had a chance to settle in to the game before Lille striker, Loic Remy, received the ball on the edge of the box from midfielder Jonathan Ikone, and the striker took a right footed shot from outside the box to the bottom left corner.
Rennes however did not give up, they went on to have more possession and more shots on target than the home side. But unfortunately for Rennes, they were unable to find an equaliser, and Lille held on to secure the three points.
Rennes best chance of the game came late on in the 84th minute from midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud, as he found his right footed shot from outside the box to be saved in the bottom left corner by the Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Lille did not settle for one goal and did try and push for a second throughout the game, and the closest they came to a second was from goal scorer Loic Remy as he found his right footed shot from the left side of the box to be close, but misses just to the right of the goal.
The only goal scorer of the match Loic Remy, spoke after the match "me and Victor Oshimen form a good attacking partnership." The pair now have a combined 15 league goals this season.
The result means Lille move up to fourth and are now only three points off away side Rennes, who miss an opportunity to close the gap to three points with second place Marseille.
Lille’s next game is away to 13th place Angers. Lille want to continue their winning streak against an out of form Angers side, who are winless in four games.
Rennes will face 14th place Stade Brestois 29. Rennes will he hoping to bounce back from this defeat as they also face an out of form Brest side who are on a two game losing streak.
